Default 1997 Jetta VR6 brake light problems

Hey everybody, I have a 97 Jetta VR6 . I'm having some lighting issues . When I hit my brake pedal, both turn signals turn on and my brake lights turn off. I have no idea whats going on , I would imagine a short somewhere, but I'd really like to address the situation before I end up getting a ticket. If anyone has had this problem, or has any ideas of things to check out, please let me know, thanks

Seeing from other peoples same problem, its could be your bulb trays are fried from water damage.

yea I think thats part of the issue because on the one tray you can see where the plastics like melted around the contact end and on the plug part of the harness where it goes into the tail light assembly and its fried in there too..

Yeah you definitely shorted out then. So the harness connector (female connector) is fried as well?

Yea, both male and female are burnt. Coincidently the wire going into the male connector has its rubber coating material stripped back about 1/4 of a inch right before it goes into the harness. I don't think thats to healthy to have that wire exposed because thats where the short is im positive about that. So i'm thinking that im going to have to get a new plug that goes into the bulb tray as well as the tray itself.
