2.0 camshaft position sensor location

So i bought a 1996 cabrio and the check engine light has been on since i got it. Took it and had the code read and it says camshaft position sensor. Does anyone know where it's located and how much the part is?

Thanks

VW used the distributor for it. I don't think the sell it seperately. Check autohausaz.com

The Camshaft/Hall sensor is part of the distributor. It can be replaced by itself but VW does not recommend it, you should replace the whole thing, but it is not a cheap date.

the part is about 100+ bucks, it is under the distributor cap (it is the distributor.)

1996 Jetta GLS.

So if i replace the distributor will the CEL go off? The code was PO341 i believe. If i buy a distributor what brand should i get and it is easy to put in? Does it just fit right inside? Do i have to adjust anything?

It is a common failure, but as with any code you should perform the diagnostic test in the Bently manual first. Autohausaz.com has the distributor.
