So im thinking of putting a chip in. done some research and im lookin at either techtonics, neuspeed, or bahnbrenner's chips. My question is does anyone have any experience with any/all of these and which one you guys would recommend. I just have a CAI and im going to have a 2.5" catback with magnaflow in by the time i get the chip. Also im not planning on putting in a new cam or anything because im not planning on keeping this car forever. just a daily driver. Your thoughts? Other chip ideas are welcomed.
To get the most out of a chip you should cam, chip, exhaust - however if you want to put in a more radical cam you need to upgrade your valve springs etc - you're better off spending the money on a set of raceland coils. The car will feel way faster than it ever will with just a chip.
I have the tectonic chip and its good, definitely noticeable. No one here commenting has a chip so how can they know? You also get much better gas mileage. Kduclimer has no idea what he is talking about.
KD: thank you for you valuable input. Ill be sure to put a lot more stickers on my car. Let me know if it worked on your saturn.
96: While i agree with you that coilovers will improve a car overall better than a chip, they are also $400 min. So yes, most likely if i buy something more expensive it will make my car better than a less expensive part (in general) hence why it is more expensive. However, i do not have $400+ laying around and so i decided to do a chip instead for $100. And yes i will get more out of a chip tune if a cam the car...however that also can get close to $400 by the time you buy the cam worth buying plus everything else you will need to do it such as lifters and springs.
mcrow: thank you for actually answering the question at hand. i think the tectonic is probably top of my list right now. since this is a daily driver and i am a poor college student at the moment i will always welcome better gas mileage as an added bonus. Do you know anything about any of the other ones? have you heard anything about them good or bad?
Well it remaps your fuel system so when you step on it, it uses more gas but when your easy on the gas it uses less. I have a chip with intake and exhaust, its noticeable but not crazy performance.
Tectonics is good because it can be reprogrammed for any future modifications. I had an autotech one before and it was pretty much the same feeling as the tectonics one. Just autotech isn't programmable.
oh ok that sounds good. and yea im not expecting all that much out of it. but if its reprogramable that's good in case i want that later down the road. thanks

Are there a few chips on the market which actually do what they claim? Yes. Are the great majority of the chips on the market a waste of money? Yes. If you've found one of the genuine ones, more power to you. Pun intended. However, a heavy amount of skepticism when it comes to chips is healthy.
