Default 2.0 skipped time?

I think my sons 97 Jetta 2.0 skipped time and bent the valves. Is this common with the 2.0?

I would say this is unlikely. There are so many other problems that would cause the motor to get jumpy first.

No spark issue,
I finally got around to checking the dist. to see if it was turning. The distributor appeared to be about 120 degrees out. I have realigned the timing marks and I have almost zero compression on cylinder 1 and 4. I double checked the alignment marks and all looks right (crankshaft pulley, camshaft pulley and dist pointing to #1).

I'm going to pull the valve cover next to make sure the valves are actually closed and test the cylinders one at a time. Something just doesn't seem right because the timing belt didn't seem loose.

any thoughts?

Thanks,

Check your crankshaft pulley bolt. The big one in the middle. I had one loosen up, ground off the key on the pulley. I would set the time, crank 'er over and the time wold be off again.....a new pulley and super tight bolt fixed it up.

I wish that was the problem but then the timing mark on the flywheel wouldn't line up and it is still good..

Hopefully I'll have some time to spend on it this weekend.

Thanks,
