any kind of o2o. diesels have a taller top gear, mk2 16v's have shorter gearing.

the diesel tranny has a tall 5th gear so it doesnt rev as high at highway speeds compared to the 2L 02o. Now a short gear is the opposite.

precisely. the taller fifth doesn't rev out as quick to allow for better mpg but also causes loss of power. a shorter geared 16v will cause you to run higher rpm on the highway whcih sucks for mpg.

there is no syncro system that uses an o2o, and no syncro system in the us. so don't even worry about that.

mk4 2.0 trans swap

needa convert either the mk4 trans to a cable clutch setup or convert your clutch to the mk4 hydraulics

i hear the mk4 trans is stronger and more reliable. i have no knowledge on the gear ratio compared to the stock mk3 trans
