Why do you want a cold air? A swissed cheesed box with a k&n drop in makes more efficient HP then a cold air. Techtonics has a dyno sheet to prove this theory
i wouldn't do a chip last...it's not a 1.8t, it doesnt run better or worse with bolt ons. in a stock, NA slow as fuck 8v. put a giac chip in it and call it a day.

and I want to put it in a 97 jetta 2.0 auto. Just do a full swap. Is there anything that I need to know thats different between the two harnesses, the tranny computer of a 97 or anything? I would be lying if I said I knew the first thing about any of this. Thanks for your help if anyone knows the answer.
you still wanna get the chip matched to your mods (cam specs) if you plan on runnin a cam. now if i had a 1.8t that would be one of the first things I would buy. kinda pointless to put a chip on a stock 2.0 considering all it really does is change your revlimiter and minor air fuel mappings. But if your runnin stock cam and stock everything else why would you wanna shift any higher then stock revlimiter? So chipping a 2.0 is almost pointless untill you are runnin some mods.
So whats the best mods to start with then cams thats what im looking for advice on parts you guys might have used or herd good things about it and come on a chip cant be pointless by its self can it? where can i get the sheets to prove the swiss cheese boxs works better i would really like to look at that
It was on techtonics tunings website a little while back. Swiss cheesed airbox sounds alot better also. Good mods for the 2.0 that are cheap and highly effective are- MK4 Intake manifold swap (I got my whole setup for $100), Mk4 Exhaust Manifold with a TT downpipe, Cam,Exhaust, then chip it. The cam you run depends on your mods, what your looking for in gains, how you drive it,where you drive it. Me I am runnin a Techtonics 288* I dont suggest that cam as its pretty much a race cam. For a every day cam I love the autotech 270. I have that cam in my wifes 97 GTI she loves it. It does have a nice lumpy idle though.

Thanks alot 85 gti i took a look at the 270 cams it says it fits 2.0L engines up to 95 but you said your wife had it in her 97 did you get hers from autotech web site thanks again
he clearly has no idea what he is talking about so why give the dude a hard time? like you were a VW genious your self when you got into the scene. thats why the forum is here to ask questions. if you are just gonna come here and bitch about the dude, then why even respond?

you're right, i wasn;t a vw genious. but when i asked a question, i listened to the answer and used the information, rather than jsut rewording it. how many times has he asked about chips or getting it "tuned"? how many times did i answer politely adn quickly that that's not how these motors work. you chip them and you do it yourself. here are some companies to look at. he jsut kept asking. i think i started out more than reasonable, but now that we're on the second page and he STILL clearly hasn't listened to the asnwers given i think i have the room to say something about it...

dude your advice sucked so i had to keep asking you must have no life to come on here and talk shit about someone who dosent have a clue you really have nothing else better to do than come here and waste your time posting and be rude you a fucking loser dude who would waste there time replying like you own this site and its gonna cost you money if i keep asking grow up
how diod my advice suck? you asked about tuning and going to a shop. these cars aren't subarus, they don't have open source. you dont go to a shop and "get it tuned", unless you're running a highly modified engine with standalone. which you're not. i told you where to look for chips to install yourself and you pretty much ignored my posts. i recommended some comapnies. how much clearer do you want it to be?
i'm sorry that my job allows me to roam the internets. but i do have some experience with these cars and i think i have a general idea what i'm talking about. i don't act like i own anything, i was giving you legit answers to your questions and you jsut kept asking the same thing anyway. i'm not the one that needs to grow up. read responses and use the info instead of jsut asking again til you get the asnwer that you want. if my advice sucks then ask questions about what i said. don't jsut repost the question.
