Default 95 cab won't start after engine swap

My 95 cabrio developed some bad noises and I happened to have a 97 cabrio with a good engine so i paid a guy to do the swap.

He's a very good mechanic with experience in just about everything except European cars.

He swapped the intake and everything else that was unique to the 95. It's all back together and he can't get it to start.

We're not hearing the fuel pump come on.

As the car started an ran OK before we assume the problem is related to something during the engine swap.

Any suggestions?

Is there a simple way to jump the fuel pump and force it to run?

THanks

Dave

First off check all the fuses and relays for the fuel system. If they are okay, then try jumping the fuel pump relay socket. Did he swap the ECU as well?

Default The plot thickens - desperate for an answer

a followup to my previous post.

I got out to the car, we jumperd the fuel pump, got fuel to hte engine, still nothing- confirmed NO spark.

So, what connection or component would lock out spark and fuel in the context of an engince change?

thanks

Dave

Like the ECM just croaked between the last time the car ran and now? And the engine swap is not connected?

Where is it located? I assume it's not comapatabel with the ECM out of the 97 as that is ODB2.

The are NO VW mechanics for MILES from me so I'm kinda' stuck if i can't get this thing running.

Thanks

If you swapped a obd2 engine into your 95 then the ecu isnt correct. You need to get a OBD1 ECU (ECM). Its located in the rain tray. Its important to have the correct ECU

We swapped every component on the engine except the distributor. Near as i can tell, the distributors are the same across the years.

Everything that had a wire going to it was removed from the older engine and put on the newer engine.
