Default 95 Jetta GL Idle Problem

Theres probably been a bunch of posts about this but here it goes...

I have an Automatic 95 Jetta GL 2.0 with 162k miles on it. When the car is cold and i go to start it up it idles irratically, surging from around 300 to 700 rpm's until it warms up. Occasionally, when i come to a dead stop and then take off slowly the car stutters until i press the gas pedal in all the way, then the problem goes away and i can let off the gas. Also, when the motor is warm and I shut it off, if I turn it on again before it cools down then the motor starts but shuts off a second later. The only way to keep it running then is to give it a slight amount of gas until i shift it into drive. I should also say i have recently installed a new fuel filter, air filter, distributer cap and rotor, plugs and wires, and a Mass Airflow Sensor. Does anybody know of a solution to my problem?

well i did clean the throttle body but i didnt take it apart or anything to do it. And with the spark plugs, after i changed them the car was running alright for a while, and then it started acting up. I personally know 16vjettapower and he recommended bosch platinums (which is what i have) so if it is the plugs then i know who to bitch at.

those bosch's are no good from what ive heard, the oem NGK plugs are the way to go. im not as familar with the 2.0 as the vr6 so maybe someone of more knowledge could help you.

bingo - the platinums don't seem to agree with either the 2.0 VW's (as I discovered after doing my wife a "favor" and installing new plugs) or my classic Saab - both of which prefer NGK's or "regular" Bosch (non-platinum - non-expensive) plugs. Spend 10 bucks on a new set of "regular" plugs - you'll feel the difference (yeah - I know what a PITA they are to change on a 2.0 - whatchagonna do?) - oh yeah - make sure they're gapped correctly before you install em.

yeah thanks it definitely was the plugs, the bosch's looked like hell when i took them out. Advanced auto didnt have NGK's so i stuck with the Autolite OEM plugs and they seem to be working good. Car works great now

just had a jetta in my shop with the problem your'e describing, in this case the iddle air controller was covered in crap. If the car was cold it would be ok as long as you waited for it to warm up for you hit the gas. If you did before the car warmed up the car would run super rich and cinda congest itself because there wouldn't be enough air to go with the extra fuel. So, cleaning the iac might help others who have these problems.
