Default 97 jetta header Q?

Ok I'm asking for my lil. Bro. but here it is he has a 97 jetta treck 2.0l. Ok the story stars like this he out an obx header. Went to put it on, pulled off the old one, put new gaskets on and bolted the obx on. He fired it up and it leaked well we thought it was a gasket that did not seat good. So we pulled it off and then seen the little holes buy the exhaust ports and that’s where it was leaking from. On the old one it had a bar under the header that went to a tube and in to what I think is an egr system so I guess he got the wrong header or is there some trick that I don’t know about? Thanks

the O2 sensor can go in either of the two holes , one comes with a bolt in it as they expect you to use the lower hole for the pre cat O2 sensor. the threaded part above the top O2 hole is for the heat shield thing that feeds warm air to the airbox when you start up on cold days.

there is no provision for the EGR because it's detrimental to performance and not needed . its just an emissions thing

That's gotta be for the EGR valve, but I've never seen one on a 2.0. Do you have a full pic of the original manifold?

Looking at the pic of the head; I would say that it channels right into the exhaust port anyway right? If so, I'd drill, tap and plug that that hole with a set screw.
