Default 97 Mk3 GTI Wont Start In the Morning After Engine wash

Hi All

Please assist?

I did a really stup!d thing and cleaned my engine bay with a pressure hose. I know i shouldnt have but its too late to cry now.

So basically, my knock sensor has cracked in the process and now my car wont strat in the morning.

It takes me +- 20 swings of the engine to get it started and when it starts, i have tolet it idle for a few minutes before revving as it i rev it the same time it cuts off.

Any bit of advise will be appreciated?

Car is Stok Standard

Thanks
Deez

i always clean my engine with a pressure hose, its not bad. you just have to stay away from ignition parts or major electric items.

as for the fix it is most likely ignition related like your ignition coil or ignition wires. those dont like water on them. if you get water in between your ignition wires and spark plug tips it will short and not get full current.

Get it fixed cause sitting there cranking your starter is not good for it and will cause it to fail pre maturely.

agreed...all of it...but if you dont have the money...replace the ignition coil first...because any water will set that thing off....plus+ the car starts just does not run well...so you know there is some ignition happening...start there...then the distributor...take a look at the cap and rotor then...You may not have to replace the whole thing

Ok, So heres a little update.
Changed the coil and the knock sensor, but still doesnt start in the morning.
I heard somewhere that a faulty coolant temp sensor could cause this. Does anyone know the truth in that?

Thanks

if you have 2.0L engine its on the left side of upper intake manifold and on a VR6 its on the right side.

Should have a two pin harness connected. shouldnt be too hard to find it, not much electrical components are in the sides of the manifold. This will give you a rough idea of what it looks like, but the metal part will be in the manifold.
