difference btw 1.6L, 1.8L & 2.0L engine

Anyone to explain the difference btw this category of engine capacity made by volks for golf in case is not written on the engine.

Any responce wl b appreciated.

Bore and stroke changed

1.6 = 76.5 x 86.9 mm
1.8 = 81.0 x 86.4 mm
2.0 = 82.5 x 96.8 mm

Bore and stroke may be different depending on year.

kindly explain this 10years & ....

Moreover since bore & stroke can not b measured in my working golf 3 1998 car, then is there any way i can differenciate this.

Basically the 1.6 is and early to mid eighties engine, the 1.8 is later eighties to early nineties and the 2.0 is from mid nineties to the current day.

Ae you looking for appearance differences so you can identify the motor in a junk yard or are you looking for internal differences and design differences?
