Default Engine cranks but no start

I am working on a 1997 golf 2.0. I replaced the timing belt and tensioner because the belt was due for replacement. While I did that I also replaced the water pump, spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter. I made sure the marks for camshaft were aligned and I checked on the transmission to make sure the marks for the crankshaft were aligned as well. I set the distributor rotor for cylinder 1. Vehicle cranks but does not start. I can't figure this out. I also cleaned the maf sensor just in case. I also want to add that the car has been sitting for over half a year

Just go through and make sure everything is plugged back in. I'm sure its simple like that. Did it run before the timing belt replacement?

Have you checked for fuel in the tank? If there is fuel is it good? Did you add any fuel to the old fuel? Is your fuel pump relay working properly? Do you hear the fuel pump running when the key is cycled? Start by checking the f/p relay and fuses then work back to the pump.

Yes I checked everything and it is all plugged back in. I hear the pump before I cycle the key. The fuel gauge reads that there is fuel and I have not added any. It started before I replaced the parts
