I not sure on the bolt size.
A bolt extractor set and some pb blaster to get the bolt out. If the car is on a lift it would greatly improve your chances of getting it out with it still mounted on the car.

Took off one of the bolts tonight (piece of cake with the VDub on a lift and a couple extenders on my ratchet). I'll take it to Napa tomorrow to size it up and get the appropriate stud. Also, the downpipe is a recent replacement by the previous owner. That means I don't have to deal with any rusty bolts.

Sort of an update. I put the VW on the lift again and tried vice grips on the stud. No effect (big surprise). So I decided to get some Irwin bolt extractors. I figure if these remove rounded off bolts, why can't the same concept be applied to studs?
I'll try the Irwin sockets this weekend. I'll let everybody know how it goes. |
