Default Gas mileage?

i have a 96 jetta with a custom catback exhaust. I drove my car from kansas to colorado and i got like 20-21 miles per gallon... there were 5 people in the car and i was driving 80-85, but it seems like i should be getting alot better mileage than that. is there anything thing that would be causing bad mileage? i'm pretty positive there isn't any leaks, it drives great.

My Vr6 with a Garrett chip would get probably aound 28 or 29 at high way speeds with 5 passengers so yeah I would say you are on the low side.

many things can cause shitty gas mileage.

Low tire pressure, bad alignment, bad o2 sensor, crap ignition parts, driving with windows open, AC, clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter and so on.

Very Possible because it impacts the Fuel Pump efficiency and fuel flow. Probably depends on how in tune you are with your car running properly. If its always ran crappy you might not know the difference.
