Gas smell in Cab after filling

I always smell gasoline after filling up the gas tank, inside the car. The smell goes away very soon. It does not return until i refill the car with gas. I do have a northern state rust bucket 95 jetta 2.0 aba celebration. Maybe gas fumes are making their way inside from a rust hole?
-No signs visually of leaking gas. Put Tracer dye in the gas and couldn't find a leak. May try this again.
-Cleaned the fuel pump housing, inspected the seal. Looked ok and reinstalled.
-Bought and replaced the gas cap.
Maybe the gas tank filler tube has a crack?
My Vag says I am not running rich or lean.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Fuel system leak somewhere near the tank/filler area I'll bet as it occurs on/just after a fill-up. I'd give it a good look under right after a fill-up prior to leaving the station; pull it just far enough away that the pump smell/danger area is avoided and no patron is too aggravated, haha.
