Cold be low on fluid, there is a dipstick on the tranny to check that for sure...has the fluid/filter ever been changed?
The best thing you can do is to get a Vag-com hooked up to your car and drive around recording data. You will be able to see what is happening when you think things are not right.
You can also see if the gears shift any differently when you shift them manually. Its a good generaly check to do. It its all the same the problems tend to be deep inside the transmission. If things act differently the problem is possibly outside and easier/cheaper to fix.
If you have a temperature related problem you might have a bad ATF temperature sensor. Again a quick check with a vag-com will show this. See your transmission has a temperature sensor on the valve body. It tells the transmission computer how warm the ATF is and the computer adjusts a valve accordingly. The ATF pressure is fine, shifts are fine, everybody is happy. If this temp sensor is bad the pressure will be wrong only under certain conditions.
my tranny jus went out on me-i was stuck in snow shiftin back and forth tryin to get out
but not really floorin the gas pedal
i finally get out and tranny is done except for reverse
AND its a sealed tranny meanin there is NO DIPSTICK to see if oil is low
