Default Help: 98 golf HU install

I removed the stock HU and found that there are 3 plugs in the back instead of two (black, brown and the extra blue one). I've read somewhere that the blue one is for a disk changer. If that is what its for can I leave the blue one hanging or have some of the wires been switched so i would have to by a different wiring harness?
