Default How big can I go?!

I know there's threads for this kind of thing already but I looked and couldn't find too much info specifically for a Cabrio on wheels.

I want to get some bigger wheels for my '01 Cabrio and I'd like to go with 17's because there are more styles to pick from in that size. For some reason I want to believe I read somewhere that 17's don't clear the wheel wells though. Can anyone confirm this for me???

Thanks!

P.S., if anyone knows a good place to look for wheels please let me know, kinda leaning towards chrome!

17s with 205/40/17 fit, you have to be low for 17s to look good though

You can really go up to an 18, 16's look best and 17's are not too bad IMO.

I'm thinking 16's will do it then, I want to lower it too anyways. What's a good spring kit for this? I don't want anything too expensive. And any suggestions on where I can find some 16's?

thanks for the replies

Thanks for the pic, I like the look of the 16's for sure now. Is that Jetta lowered at all?

I found some VW bbs style wheels for sale by me. They are 16's with the 205/40/16 tires. The guy is asking $700 o.b.o., is that a good deal? I've never bought wheels before.

Here's the link to those wheels 96-99 Volkswagen Wheels and Tires

seems like a lot for used 15" I would see what type of tires they are, that would make or break the deal.

They're 16's, not 15's. But either way I won't have the $ for a couple more weeks (starting a summer job) so I havn't bothered to call the guy for details yet.

i got my 16's for 200 bucks and the whole setup (wheels/tires/adapters/etc) cost me 900. i definitely prefer 16's on mk3s. also, fyi... i have an fk 60/40 cupkit and 205/40/16 toyos.

seems like 205/40 is definitely the tire size to go with 16's. i'm lookin' forward to making some $$ this summer to get some wheels. Thanks for the pics and all the input guys!
