Default Intake Question

I Just Got An ABD Big Bore Intake for my 94 2.0 8v Golf...It Looks Plenty Simple To Install...but on the instructions they make a big deal about saying how they're illegal for road use and are for race setups with and abd quick flow something or other...the car should be fine if install the big bore correctly and as long as the MAF sensor and everything are still how they should be?? ... Thanks For The Help

Yep it will be fine, Install is easy, depending on where you have an intake mounted it will hit the strut towers...but its an easy install.... they say offroad use to protect their asses.

It's a smog law violation.
In California, it fails because it's not stock and does not have a C.A.R.B. executive order number that says it's ok to have.
It's expensive for a manufacturer to get those E.O. numbers, so many don't bother.

Honeslty I have not heard anything good about those "Big Bore" intakes, pretty much a big waste of money.
No performance gains, and they fit like crap!

People claim slightly better throttle responce, and noise...that's about it.

So, not to be a dick, but your probably better off with just a air intake kit (open element filter) or even just a good drop-in. You'll get the same results, and actually probably gain 1-2hp as well.

I've noticed gains throughout the powerband with one... I've instlalled a bigbore/q-flow setup and i've installed just a q-flow... def noise and power gains out of the bigbore... but that was just a butt dyno... they look alot better to But they do fit like crap, i had to take a hammer to the strut tower to get it to fix it without knocking against it...

i have a big bore and noticed slight power gains, fitment is shitty, esp with the breather hose. for the strut tower, i cut out a square piece of rubber then glued it to the strut tower to eliminate vibrating noise. the abd does look a hell of alot better then the stock tube.

get yourself a small piece of dynamat or a similar material and stick it to the strut tower in spot where the big bore is making contact.... i say dynamat because its already got a good adhesive applied to the back. but other stuff is most likely cheaper.
like chris said..... should fix you right up.

What about gas mileage. Should it go down 3-5 mpg with an open element, such as a P-flow?

i just had a piece of semi thick rubber liner laying around the garage and used some adhesive and glued a square onto the strut tower. works great and no more vibration noises.

My ABD bigbore has been nothing but trouble....the fit is horrible (amazing that its actually made specifically for our cars ) It rattled against the strut tower and didn't really do anything else. I used the dynamat fix for awhile, but that doesn't work so good if you show your car, so with a little cutting, welding, smoothing, etc. it now fits perfect. Now why couldn't ABD do that?

Yeah I'd def. have to agree ABD big bore's fit is piss poor with a capital P ... i mean they look great and do bring a little bit of a decent sound but they rattle like hell...i've tried about 6 different ways to get it to stop and it just rattles them all right off...i dunno my current solution semi-works but i dunno...if u don't like vibrations stay away from them
