Default Jetta/Golf/Cabrio - GLS/GLX Suspension... are they

Okay, here's my problem. I drive my 96 Jetta VR6 down the block and it reminds me of when I used to ride in the back of my dad's old '78 Ford pickup. Lotsa noise! So I'm thinking the shocks & struts are SHOT.

Since I have a kid on the way and enough bills to choke a garbage truck, I'm trying to do this on the ULTRA-CHEAP, so I'd like to yank a set off of another car and stick 'em in my Jetta. My local U-PULL-IT has a few Golfs, Cabs and Jettas, but no GLXs. What are my options? I know I can't use the struts off any GLs and I'm well aware of the gamble used parts affords me, but at this point I'm thinking some 2x4's and rubber bands are better than the struts I have now.

Thanks!

You can use the suspension out of the non-vr6's but it will just be saggy because the VR6 engine is heavier obviously. They will still bolt in but might not last long. The VR6 springs will be stiffer than 2L springs so it might get bouncy with 2L suspension in. Also you should pull it out of a car 96-99' since there is a change at 95.5.

i pretty much have a complete car minus motor and trans.... its a glx so it has leather and all the normal goodies plus aftermarket parts, im not sure how much to ship but i wanted 100 bucks plus shipping for the suspension but i dont have the means to ship it now as i cant get into the warehouse because the roof collapsed due to all the snow and until the owner gets it fixed we arent allowed back into the building all my stuff is ok but he doesnt want people inside cause of lawsuits and stuff thats why i said i cant ship anything for now and if u could wait.....

I'm not in any hurry to lower it to be honest. I'm more interested in restoring the factory struts, but a hundred bucks for a set of H&R Lowering springs is a good deal. Keep me posted as to when you're able to access your car.

Thanks!
