Default Lost key: Golf Immovilizer Overrider

We lost the key to our 96 right side drive VW Golf cabrio.

Unfortunately, there is no VW dealer in the Bahamas and we are unsure how to get around this situation given the immobilizer present.

We have a spare key which turns engine over but then it cuts-out from immobilizer.

Does anyone have any idea or products that could help us override the immobilizer?

VW didn't institute an immobilizer system until 2000... at least not here.

Not in the US but as i said this is RIGHT SIDE drive car made in Germany and imported from Japan. All cars in europe had immobilizers from 1995 onward.

In that case I have no idea. We have the capability to defeat the immobilizers we have here for purposes of coding keys or engine swaps but I wouldn't even know where to start on your car.

Do you know if the immo built into the alarm module or the engine ecu?

immobilizer seems to be combined with engine control module, ignition and instrument panel.

what can you do to code a new key with chip in this case?

What engine does this car have? The immobilizer can be removed but not without soldering in the ECU.

It has a gas, 2.000 cc engine. built in germany and it is right hand side drive. would be great if you had a solution to remove the system.

I'm sure I could delete the immobilizer but it would require having the ecu here. I'm not sure how well that would really work for you.

the key you have now, does that have the immobilizer chip in it? and is it the correct frequency fr the immobilizer? You need to have that key programed if that is the case, so the immobilizer accepts it
