Hello Everyone...I am a new to this forum but not forums in general. I usually stick to Japanese cars, but the price and timing was right, so I ended up with my first VW and upon inspection I'm pretty thrilled.
Since I am unknown waters I was just wondering if there was any tips/tricks I need to know. I am a fabricator and I like to make all my own parts, and I was just wondering if I might be running myself into problem by doing so. This car is my DailyDriver, but I only work 2 1/2 miles from my work.
I started fabbing a cold air intake (i'll post pics as soon as I take them)

Any input would be greatly appreciated

If you made larger or even just metal stock sized MAF housings, you could make a killing! If I were you, I'd make my own intake and exhaust. What kind of fab work do you do? Roll cages are sweet too

Well VW is just like Honda ( don't kill me guys ) As I mean you can source parts from all 4 gens to add to your cars performance. not sure on Gen 5 yet But some one will figure it out eventualy
Depending on witch motor you have is what will guide you to hat fabbing you want to do. Vw has a vast choice in performance options. Why alot of VW owners shell out soo much cach (don't know) But a good junk yard sorrce an alot of reading iinto it you can make yourself one fun ass ride. I had like 5 or 6 vw's all had some thing diferent to offer experience wise. Loved all ( except the passat the motor was great but the auto trans sucked balls) I have also owned Mazda RX7 honda Civic, Accord, Acura Integra and Dodge GHLS Omni Swapped an tuned had fun . Found the frame of mind is all the same.

I have made 3" dia aluminum MAF's before, but I realized all you have to do is make your alum intake, gut your MAF and install it into your newly fabbed intake. My first intake like this was on my Nissan Sentra - which has a small comp chip inside the MAF which I had to cut out and install into my tube - I then sealed the entire deal from the weather with an ass load of silicone and it worked great.
Since then I have made an alum box welded to the tube to house such chip.
Anyway, when I said I was used to Japanese Imports I should have clarified - I absolutly hate honda's. Nissan's and Toyota's are my preferred vehicles.

As far as what kind of fabrication I do...I do/make anything I can think of. I've made intakes, headers, full exhaust systems, custom emblems/badging, short throw shifter kits, aluminum body kits, fully adjustable camber/caster plates, just to name a few.
Basically if I get an idea of something that might be cool - I'll design it and make it ( I am a graphic designer by trade ) So I'll keep Ya'll posted on anything I got going on
