Default stumbles on acceleration

96 Jetta 2.0

• always had a problem starting the car after it rained the night before.
• would take several tries, but would eventually start, and would be fine the remainder of day.
• in mid January.. after having trouble starting (rain).. made it 8-10 miles... but stalled on way home and it took 45-60 minutes to get it started again, and make it home. Would stall when accelerating into 1st/2nd.. after a stop/traffic light. (CEL came on)

-> replaced plugs

• stalled again 2 weeks later, after accelerating from a stop. Would crank fine, but would not turn over. Had to have it towed home.

-> replaced wires
-> then replaced cap, rotor and fuel filter.

Took it in for CEL code.. PO300, PO302 (misfire)

now.. it starts just fine, but after driving for 1-3 miles.. stumbles on acceleration and stalls after a stop (1-2 gear). I was able to get it started again, after waiting 5-10 minutes.

Any thoughts?

coil next?
injectors?
or.. as my car guy says.. just bad gas?

ps. I also replaced the mid and rear muffler and the intermediate pipe in December. Just wondering it I did any damage during removal/installation.. towards the front (down pipe)

Sounds like the coil... make sure you do some research before you pick one up, they can be pricey.

I just checked.. and it is actually cracked!

I might try the quick fix...
that I've read about (epoxy) ..
and see what happens..
before buying a replacement.

thanks again for the replies!

Epoxy works on VR coils. 2L coils are cheap enough. www.autohausaz.com

i had the same problem a while back and the coil was at fault. only thing that threw a twist into my problem was i went to buy a new coil and it ended up being bad. had me more confused but eventually got another coil and it fixed everything. good luck
