Question suspension..?

i just replaced my rear shocks and i was wonderin how much harder (if at all) it is to change the front??

whats the purpose of compressing the springs? what am i missing? i just replaced the shocks w/o compressing the springs and i dont see why you would have to compress the springs for any reason really...??

and anyone kno where i could find a deal on lowering springs??

one more thing... i can barely believe that the shock rod/piston rod goin up thru the frame is being held from shootin up thru by a littl washer...

I'll second the killing thing. They're not just shocks on the front, they're struts. The springs are held slightly compressed in the assembly even when it's removed from the car. You take that nut off the strut shaft, the strut's going one way and the spring's going another and it may or may not take off some fingers or a chunk of your head.

It's not just a washer holding the strut up. It's a good size chunk of rubber and metal. If you do some searching on the web, there's lots of how-to's, most of them illustrated on removing the strut assemblies from the car.

yea just take your time and go slow rent the spring compreser from your local auto parts store....then take your wheel off....and im not to sure about vws i havent done mine yet...but there should be some nuts holding the strut mount to the body, remove the bolts/ nuts....take the hole assimbly out, put the compresser on the spring, and go at it....until you have the spring compressed enough to undo it all.....( just be carefull)

thats how i did my sunfire when i had it, my s10 is diffrent, but most cars are the same way.
