Default VR6 OIL CHANGE (while sober)

Alright kids, before you explode, I did use the search feature with zero results (which seems improbable -I know -I used the keywords vr6 and oil)

It's time to change the oil on my VR6 12V. It will be the first time since I acquired the car. I have no idea what oil is in there, nor does my buddy who was the previous owner because he was really stoned everytime he had it changed at some expensive place in Aspen Co.

Here be the facts..........

*No Idea what oil is presently in there
*Motor has 160,000 miles
*Motor runs smooth as silk, in fact you can't tell that it is running when it sits at idle.
*Motor has ZERO leaks!!!

Should I go with a high mileage conventional? If so what weight for Southeastern United States (And I will never drive this car out of state)

Should I risk stepping up my game with synthetic? Mobil One? WHat weight?

Anyone who is deemed helpful will be favored heavily in my great Man-sierre give away contest.

Synthetic never hurts. In fact in many ways it is better than normal oil. It has allot of additives that help clean and make the motor last longer. A lot of old timers don't like synthetic because they think it destroys the motor but that is only a myth.

For Georgia I would just go with your average 5w-30 oil and synthetic gives a really smooth idle and great longevity. Mobil-1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc. are all great oils for synthetic.

I use 5w-30 synthetic oil for 1.8T (turbos are more sensitive to the oil you use in it) and have had no problems with it whatsoever. Everyone has their own theory on oil but this is just a popular one.

I dunno the reasoning behind the 0w/40, the vr6 just seems to like it. Check this vortex thread out, tons run the M1 0w/40.

5/30 or 10/30. i wouldn't run a straight synthetic right off the bat.
