Default wheel bearing question yet again

in my last post i was wondering about the question of how to know if it was my wheel bearings or not. my next question would be, instead of goin through and changing the wheel bearings would changing the hub do just as well? i have changed one of them before, and are time consumeing but i am not gonna pay they amount that the machanic was charging is this a smart idea? is someone could let me know i will be more than pleased...

if you've removed the spindle before you can do that and buy the bearing and take it to a shop to have the bearing pressed in, re-assemble the front end and have the car aligned.

the hub and the wheel bearing press into the spindle. purchasing the bearing would be more cost effictive, i would think.

whell bearings are gennerally expensive to have done by a shop because they have to break down the front end, press out the old and press in the new. time is money. if you can get the spindle off and get the bearing at a parts place or the dealer you can have it pressed in for around $30 depending on the shop. I've not paid more than $40 for a bearing. you should be able to get away without having to have the front-end re-aligned, unless you think you need it.

like I said in your other post its sometimes easy, sometimes hard. I mean if you have a press like I do, then yes its not difficult at all really. But if not , it sucks. But I would do what they said go get the bearings and get to the point to where they need pressed in and pay them to press them in. It will be alot cheaper. Good Luck again.
