the VR was a love/hate for me. I loved the sound/power, but after the 2.0 and the miles per week I drive it wasn't worth the gas bill for me so I sold it after a few months

then shortly after I picked up this disaster of a Mk4.

Specs

2000 Rave Green GTI 1.8t
128k miles
custom DP and exhaust with Borla muffler
Tint
Disgusting spray tinted taillights
Ugly Oettinger grille

this is probably the biggest project I've gotten myself into as far as bringing the car up to something that I'll really enjoy. If it was any other color I probably would have just passed, but RG is awesome!
The body has paint chips/somerust/clearcoatpeel/mismatchedshades
Interior was gross with ugly speakers and holes in the door panels where tweeters used to be.
PO chopped the shifter down to the floor and put on a gross knob
Boost gauge in a pod just wedged between the dash and the A pillar with the vacuum line ran through the door jam and through the fender
The engine bay was in just as bad shape with hoses everywhere some going to nothing and some janky wiring

onto some pictures..

you can kinda see the mis match color in the front fender compared to the door

clear on the roof

for some reason the PO decided to fill in the plate holes only TO DRILL MORE right next to the old ones:facepalm:

other that the stuff mention above the interior isn't too bad

ugly shifter/knob shifts like poop

how the gauge was wedged in

Sloppy bay (before)

random crap

for some reason they unhooked this hose and replaced it with a breather creating a nasty vac leak

started removing SAI junk and got some air tools and brillo pads and started on the IM and VC

looks alittle better...couldn't do much more while it was on the car

custom DP

installed the 034 Motorsport hose kit

also installed a AWP inlet pipe to run the 034 kit

then I noticed the MAF wiring was haggard and needed attention so I busted out the soldering gun and cleaned it up

here's everything that was removed

I ordered the Stage 1 ECS Suspension Revamp kit since the ball joints and outter tierods are toast

Ordered the Suspension Refresh kit from ECS on Friday and arrived Tuesday which I was pleasantly surprised about since most people say they have issues with ECS...

Only installed the BallJoints and Tierods, I still need to install the control arm bushing and I'm thinking wheel bearings would also be a necessary investment.

also got myself some FK Streetlines (PKG whore coilovers from a friends old 20th.) Even in there frozen state of not very low and one being blown they still ride pretty good for me being the 3rd owner. better than any of my nasty low Rokkors anyway

I also sold that ugly grille to someone on EW and should buy a new grille sometime soon...
heres some pictures after a touch of low

LOL at my taillights...I got sick of being pulled over (3times/6days) so I just sanded down a spot to keep the law off my nuts for awhile. Makes me giggle everytime I look at them

I also hate the way the exhaust tips come out from under the bumper so I plan on chopping off the tips right after the muffler so they're just little turn down tips behind the bumper kinda like stock.

no pics of install, but when removing parts of the cooling system, always remember to remove the overflow cap otherwise you get a coolant shower. lol

tried the 3M kit on the headlights. Worked pretty good
left is 90% done and the right is what it looked like before

the driverside light is still kinda foggy. I'm pretty sure it's nasty on the inside of the lense..
either way its better than it was and cheaper than new lights

also my shifter stalk took a shit so I picked up a used one from a Beetle a buddy had and it's seemed to do the trick. Still need the shifter box though.
no pictures of the work, but here's the old one

as of right now I'm in need of control arm bushings (still not installed) and a driverside axle
Most of the motor issues are taken care of, just a couple more lingering problems left
I got the car to scan after removing the aftermarket stereo and got 5 pages of codes, lolol most was fixed when I went through and deleted the SAI and what not

Got bored with putting money into fixing this so I got something to make me enjoy this turd abit more

still cleaning and stripping them..
Corvette Sawblades 17x8.5 17x9.5

obviously I copied most of this from my thread on other forums so if some of the info doesn't make sense or is out of order, that's why...

To get that tail light tint off, try Goof Off or a normal Intake Parts (MAF, Throttle body) cleaner in an aerosol can. Tape off the tail lights to prevent paint damage of course. Then spray lightly, wipe off, until its all off.

I liked the wheels that were on it before. I mean, I like Sawblades and all, but I did like the others too.

Why didn't you just copy and paste everything into one post?

As for the car, rave green is one of my favorite colors on a GTI. Just snag an OEM grille and some other minor things.

If those tails just have nightshade on them try 100% acetone. You can get it at Wal-Mart for under $10 in the makeup department. Get the bigger bottle if you decide to try it. And just take your tails out and do it. I wouldn't leave them on the car.

Oh and here's some incentive
