Exclamation 00 VR6 Standard w/ MANY issues NEED HELP

FIRST OFF id like to make sure that my car is what i suspect as its a new term to me. that my 2000 VR6 GLX (has ALL options heated seats power everything so on) that its a mk4? second there is a myriad of problems that need attn i just need to know which is most important & where i start. fortunately there IS a machanic close that ONLY works on VW. usually if my BF cant fix it we have a guy but he refuses to work on dubs......his loss. i wanted kind of a beater so i could soup it up. i think i was lucky to find one for only $3,500.!!!!
ok heres whats wrong.ty in advance for your help.

Check engine light always comes on sometimes flashes (im told its a misfire)

at 1500 rpms the oil light comes on screen says "STOP" "SHUT OFF MOTOR" "OWNERS MANUAL" & "EMMISIONS something"

sometimes i will b driving (seems to happen after dark) & the car SHUTS OFF. wont start. i have to adjust the wpart that has the end of the spark plug wires over the battery like theres a short and then it starts no prob.

the car doesnt over heat. no surging while shifting. belt does make noise and may be slipping. oil pressure switch oil filter & coil pack changed and oil level is monitored b/c i KNOW Jettas or Dubs are very pick w/ oil lvl. this is my #rd Jetta and 2nd vr6 i REALLY want this one 2 last me for a long time i del pizza (not a lot of $$$) so i need her to be in good cond. the better she runs the faster i drive the more $$$ i make. thank you all.

First: Yes, it is a MKIV Jetta.
Second: Find a new BF. One that will be helpful and work on your car. What does he have, a Camaro?
Third: get the car's codes read and post them up. This can be done for free at most auto parts stores. Flashing CELs is normally a Misfire/coil pack issue.

Outside of that interwebz diagnosis is difficult.

your funny! first off the bf DOES work on the car but i got it for ME to work on. he has an 86 silverado. and a 72 cutlass ragtop he's rebuilding anywho. the codes its pulls has NOTHING to do with the oil pressure issue. its a p420 thats the cat.... thats the ONLY code. i have a OBD reader btw. thanks for your help thus far. i know a lot cant be done over the computer i just need to know what is most important to get fixed first. to not blow the engine. thanx again!

That code means "Description : Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)"

It can be the front O2 sensor, but in some cases it can be the coolant temp sensor. From what you describe I would replace that as it also will in some cases throw the oil light and is super cheap. Especially if yours is black, the revision is green on top.

Could be coilpack, large vac leak, clogged cat, o2 sensor, dirty maf, or low oil. Check them all, clean te maf, have a shop test sensors and cat efficiency, check for vacuum leaks especially near/under intake mani, and keep BF then. I was close with the camaro though, admit it. He owned one at some point I bet. Haha

wow that is a great bit of useful info. i thank you! the coil pack was replaced ( or so we where told) by the guy i bought it from. i did buy the o2 sensor but took it back. the car has 185k miles on it so im sure a lot of little things are needing to be replaced. the car is indeed black. as far as the bf having a camero im not sure lol, hes 14 yrs older than me so he may have lol. never mind duh i know what you meant about the black and green. yeah its a $15 part vs a $60 part! i had a guy at the parts store look at the size of my battery b/c it floats ALL OVER the casing area where the battery belongs and was told that its a Honda battery. it cant suport all the ops the Jetta has b/c its 125 cc amps short of what the car needs. im telling you if it aint one thing.......thanx again. i'll start on it right away.
