Default 2.0 Stumbles slightly when cold

Bought a 2000 Jetta for my daughter last week. Seems like a pretty good car, but it has a tendancy to "miss" or "stutter" a little bit when engine has been setting. Seems to coincide more with setting overnight or some other time period than when engine is cold. Only happens the first time car is driven in any day.

Any ideas where to start looking for this?

TIA,

Kirk

Like a misfire? Or more like a shudder like a drop in RPM?

Probably best described as mis-fire.

Default Update

OK, daughter let me drive this morning. Car started fine, AC was off, gave it a little throttle and it revved fine with just a hint of miss, backed out of driveway and drove a few miles to get breakfast without any further indication of anything awry. Have not been able to reproduce the miss since, but expect to have the same issue tomorrow morning. Car has actually stalled for my daughter in this situation, but that did not happen for me (maybe because the AC was not dragging it down). Is it possible for the fuel system to entrain air during a period of sitting? Just thinking aloud, seems wierd that we can only reproduce the "miss" first thing in the day.

Any guidance is appreciated,

Kirk

Get it scanned first and foremost, but it kinda sounds like a coilpack issue, although I could be wrong. If you get the codes and post them on here someone will be able to identify the problem. Mk IV's are notorious for bad coilpacks, I know people that carry an extra set on them at all times
