Default Alex's MK4 jetta Timeline/Build thread

Figure I make one of these eventually.
It's a slow process but this has been fun the whole time.
I have tons of plans so I hope this grows!

It is an automatic 1.8t jetta. Black with black interior.
I didn't really touch my car until I joined VWF in 2011, after I got home from training.
*Note: I can't remember how many coil packs i've replaced but i think i'm verging on an entire dozen.

First thing i did is went to town on the damn foggy lenses with a 3m restoration kit.

Soon after i found "joey mod" on VWF. There's a thread for it in our DIY section.

got rid of dealer plate holders, moved front plate, painted rear emblem, got rid of rear chrome emblems. Badgeless grille

Next I ordered raceland ultimos and threw on a specter cone air filter.
Ordered front grilles.

Got tired of my plate holes, figured I experiment with bondo. Started with engine cover to get a feel for the stuff then moved to my rub strip, repainted bumper.
At about this time I replaced my oil return line for the turbo and a front axle.

This got rid of the sidemarkers and plate holes, so i decided I would get rid of everything that wasn't black next. Or make those things black.

Got the car APR tuned and a couple months later I got ridiculously tired of all black so I took it off and ordered new front and back lights deplo ecodes and hella smoked candy canes, polished my intake manifold and picked up a ROUGH and boy i mean ROUGH set of C5s. Also slapped on a VWF sticker
REPRESENT!

Next I chopped up my exhaust.
exhaust 0475 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Then put a magnaflow muffler on it, I've yet to make a decent exhaust video.

Then I finally got around to painting and mounting the C5s, painted brake calipers red.

Next I tinted the windows, threw on a roofrack.

Cleaned up my engine bay, sprayed the valve cover.

Being so low took a toll on the car, I ruined my oil pan and another axle!
heres on stands in some guys parking lot jb wielding my pan up. Luckily I bought an entire case of full synthetic 5w-30 for 20 bucks just before this and was in my car still!

Not even two weeks later, Smashed it again!

But this got rid of that problem. ECS hybrid oil pan, great fucking kit I swear by it.

Shortly after this my auto transmission got completely obliterated, right after buying HID's. I have good luck I guess. So the car has been sitting in the garage mostly.

The HID's came and I popped them on, they look great. Got them from roger here on the fourms.
Also threw on a K&N filter to replace specter

I just ordered lower fog grilles to fit on a set of hella micro DE fogs. They're going to look great.
Also working on sourcing parts for a full manual swap. Taxes couldn't come any slower.

the white c5's and roofrack really work so well on the car. your car makes me want white c5's and a roofrack with a fairing lol.

Here's the kit if you want to do it. 180$, free shipping and amazing product for sure.
Gives you a healthy full inch of extra room between the road and your pan.
Volkswagen Jetta IV 1.8T > Search > Oil Pan > ES#2102397 ECS Hybrid 1.8T Oil Pan Conversion Kit - 06A103601AA
There's three cross bolts to take off the pan, get the tool for those. It's a nightmare.

I love the headlights man! I also love the flow and simplicity like the engine bay. It has the polished intake but also everything is wrinkled which makes it look somewhat oem!

Roger does some damn good work I tell you what. Wish I had a camera that did them justice.

All wired up!
These fogs are crazy bright. I didn't expect them to be so bright but hella makes great products and these fog lights in particular are awesome!
Coupled with the fogs in the headlights and the HIDS I'm putting out a huge amount of light. But with all the cut offs(Even the fogs have sharp cut offs) the other drivers on the road won't have any complains about it.

Looking at these two pictures you can see how much light my car is putting out.
Even under a street lamp there is a clear area of light projected from the car.
I'm completely satisfied with my light set up, can't thank roger enough for helping me get to this point!

I do still need to get around to lining up the HID cut offs It's just been cold. I'll probably do it in the next couple days.
Daylight pics of lower fogs will come once I get the jetta grilles. This was just a mock up so I could see what they look like when they're on and how much light they put out. I have to take a hammer to the horn mount on the driver side to get the fogs to fit (hella micro DE fogs are pretty deep)
You would also have to cut up your intercooler shroud but that has been gone for a while.
