it took me awhile to get them down pat lol. fingers crossed my spare short block is good! pulled the water pump to try and get an idea and the fins on the pump were in pieces, hopefully thats from the plastic sitting in there dry for so long, and they werent broken and causing it to run hot when it was running. but for a $50 short block i got off a buddy that was desperate for cigarette and beer money i couldnt rele go wrong.

worst case its getting made into a coffee table and im using the block in my car. not too happy about that because the mk4 will be down without a motor for awhile while everything is built and assembled, but i have another daily in the meantime

Dont sweat it man, the best way to start a build is with a solid block. Any used block will need to go to machine shop for cleaning and inspection than go from there

Just strip the block and send it to the pros

exactly. worst case, i just end up with a badass table. the hardest part is finding time to get the block over there to them. because i either dont have access to a truck to use it, or when i can use the truck its after hours. but im shooting for sometime this week on getting it over there

from what i understand of all my reading on the 1.8t the aeb head with the awp block will run smoothly no matter what as long as u have the timing gears right and the right amount of teeth. the crank trigger wheels are swappable depending on what style block u have most people like mentioned before go with the 2.0T crank from the newer mk5s and use the trigger wheel and weld it to make it work u also need to modify the oil pump drive gear to get the 2.0L crank to work. if ur going thru the trouble of getting an aeb head and an awp block u might as well get it stroked or even bored and stroked.. most of the problems people run into while building the 1.8t is getting the right manifolds to fit the right heads and once you have everything right getting everything polished and matched is going to be another good idea to do.

For transporting the block, I'm pretty sure you can fit it in the trunk of the jetta if you get it stripped and bagged
