Under normal driving conditions it should do fine in almost any car.
brenshlus, thanks for the heads up. i still have not done the oil change yet and have the oil still stiing in the garage, does it make sense to switch it for the 5-40 or the 0-30? i think my car may feel violated if i put in no german oil in the car... hahaha...

There's really nothing wrong with using Syntec 5W30 when you consider that most dealerships still use 5W30 dino oil for schedualed maintanence. The Syntec 5W30 you have is far superior to any grp2 dino oil, but it still doesn't meet VW specs.
As the opening topic article mentions, you would gain more sheer stability(ie: higher resistance to oil breakdown) if you use 5W40 or the German-made 0W30. The VW specs also require oil mfgrs to blend thier oils with a higher tolerance to burn-off. Another thing that makes GC so special is its ability to neutralize acids for an extended period. Castrol really pulled out all of the stops when they designed the SLX/0W30 additive package. Its chemical composition really is unlike any other motor oil on the market.

Soo...If I do 100+MPH on a regular basis, I should use Castrol 0W-30(GC)? I'm getting serviced on tuesday so a quick response would be great! Is that considered to be the best oil now for the 1.8T(I know Mobil 1 use to be...).
TIA
-Pete
I use castrol syntec 5w-40 works wonders in my 1.8T. Mad torque feel after switching from mobile 1
Also VW/Audi aproved and found in all autozone stores

Just an FYI I have after years of using Mobil 1 just switched to Castrol Syth in the 4MO, the Jetta will be switched this weekend as well. All is good so far.

I have a VR6 01 and I'm about to change my oil. I'm running the Mobil 1 currently but after reading the thread, thinking about a change. Would you recommend the Red GC OW-30 or the Castrol Syntec 5w40 I'm getting a slight ticking in my endgine that I would like to go away. I just want the very BEST for my engine. What to do?
