Default Brazil vs. German and more info about this

Where can i find out more info about manufacturing and assembly: ie what parts are built where, the reputations, the pros the cons of assembly plants in various countries, and what to look for when buying a GTI, preferably a GTI VR6 2003...should I look for manufacturing/assembly in Germany only? Or is Brazil, Mexico, PA or others Ok too???

thanks, Ben

wow man you are getting real picky...
im pretty sure all the plants are gonna use the same parts, they dont come from Germany made with Stainless Steel and from Brazil made with plastic...
I wouldnt worry too much about where the plant is, just as long as the VW badge is there.

DISCLAIMER: I really don't have any knowledge of the different plants and i am only assuming what I think is going on.

Gives a list of plants around the world that produce parts, and vehicles.
As far as quality...well, it's VW, which seems hit or miss these days regardless.

We stopped getting German Golf/GTIs in 2001. Every Golf/GTI since 2001 has come from the Curitiba, Brazil plant, except the R32s, which are made in Slovakia. All Mark 4 Jettas (excluding Wagon) in this country are from Mexico, as well as the New Beetle. The Jetta Wagons are manufactured in Germany, all of em. All Touaregs and Phaetons are made in Germany, and the Eurovans are all made in Germany as well.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys for the info...

So then what is the general feeling on the street about the Brazil built GTI's? Should I look for a 2001 German built GTI rather then a 2003? My girl just bought an R32, and I wanted sumthin comparable... (I dont have the money for an R32 - but she lets me drive it once in a while!!) I know the R32 is a step above, but what would the next step down be? ...The 337 special edition model?

Thanks

I don't want to sound blasphemous but...

If you want something comparable for less money buy an SRT-4. My girlfriend owns one and i'm stuck with a 2pointslow. at least mines not a pile of american designed parts.......

Buy a new GTI 1.8T and throw on the usual bolt ons...you'll be beating the R32 as long as the pavement is dry!

Or for something different...the New Jetta GLI is something to consider. 1.8T, 6 speed Manual, Recaro seats....its nice. And you can go to your local dealer and buy one right now.
