Default check engine light blinking/loss of power/ car shaking.

Hey I ran into a problem this morning and while I was drinking all of a sudden my car lost power. I look down at the dash and the check engine light is blinking. I pulled over and turned the car off and on again and when I start it it shakes and when i press the gas pedal down a little bit the car shakes. I was very close to come so turned around to drive home and relized that even when I press the gas pedal down the fastest my car will go is like 30-40 miles an hour and doesnt seem to want to go any faster. The check engine light keeps blinking and when standing in place the whole car is shaking. Anyone ever run into this problem before or has any idea what it might be? Its a 2002 GTI golf 1.8t. Thanks alot!

1.8t.. shaking.. blinking cel...

ignition coil packs.. hands down. 100% sure.

call your local vw dealer, give them your vin in service. ask about coil pack recall. if it was never done.. go to local vw dealer, they will replace and wash car for free.. VOLA cel is gone, car drives like new.

You are just shaking from drinking.

Stop the drinking and the car will be fine.

Blinking CEL is generally from a misfire. Coil pack could definitely cause think. Like they said above, get it checked out and have the recall done. I know in the Audi A4 from the same year had the same problem with the coils on the 1.8T

Default he is right

yeah the guy up above is correct. you have to have a coil pack issue. these cars are extremely well known for. if that does not fix the issue which very unlikely however it does happen it might be the wire harness, plugs, or the n75 valve these are well known to fail.
