Default Desperate For Advice/Help Re Stalling

Hi,

I have a 2004 Golf 2.0 automatic with 101,000km.

I have this issue with the car that after its warmed up 90 degrees, I find the engine stalls of splutters either in heavy traffic or when braking.

Recently I have had the timing belt changed (problem there before the belt change) and a tune up by seperate mechanics.

The mechanics dont know what the problem is.

I have cleaned the MAF sensor myself but still no good.

Also my car has 2 fans, the large one infront of the radiator has stopped working, since when, I dont know but the smaller one works when the A/C is on.

A longshot but could the fan not working be the cause of the stalling ??

Its a very frustrating issue and I dont seem to be able to get a solution.

Cheers

As long as the motor isn't overheating, the fan isn't the cause of the stalling.
It could be the lock up torque converter isn't unlocking. Next time your coming to a stop and it feels like its going to stall, shift into neutral. If it still stalls, then the converter is not the problem.

Could also be the EGR valve sticks open. It should close at idle.

Thanks for the reply, will Google that now. The last mechanic basically said it was the fuel I was using. That was the E10 (in Australia) but since then I switched to 95 octane and no difference and then 98 octane and still no better.

With the ERG valve does this get detected when the plug the car into the computer. Also the car revs at just below 800rpm if thats normal.

This has been one frustrating exercise to get this problem fixed.

Just in case this helps, I took my Golf to a specialist and anyway they reckon they have found the faults. I cant recall all of them there was a long list of sensors.

Bottom line is that the bill is about 600 quid. I will get the car back in a day or two and will let you know what was done and if its fixed.
