Default dimmer switch

i want to wire my boost gauge into my dimmer switch. right now i have it wired in generically into the fuse block.. into one of the fuses for the key.. so its on whenever the car is on.. not nessecairly with the headlights like i want. now new south tells you to splice into the dimmer switch... but they dont tell you which wire.. upon my drunken annalysis..

theres 3 wires inside the dimmer..
thick brown, and a skinny white, and a skinny white with blue stripe on the side..

im assuming im wanting to splice the wire that controls the dimmer only.. not the power n i know not the ground.. if im thinking correctly..

thanks ahead of time.

Should be three wires coming out:

blue/grey = constant
greyish white = dimmer
brown = ground

GL with your install, i have mine dimming with my interior lights, it is much nicer that way. looking to crack open up my turbo timer next and install some color matched leds in there too.

thanks man. so i am thinking right then.. splice into the dimmer.. itll come on with the headlights n work with the dimmer.. nice. yeah man.. look at new sout performance.. they make a series called INDIGO. which is what i got. they make it a 100% match to stock gauges. the arrow is the same.. and it uses the same vw purple/blue- ish led light.. it looks amazing. and with a pod. really really cleans it up. also they make the same indigo series available in other gauges too. and they r pretty cheap as far as gauges go.. and known for being extremely accurate in mk4 vw's
