Default Few questions.

I found a 2001 VW Golf GLS 4 cylinder automatic for sale. The guy wants 4900$ for it and it has 129,000 miles on it. I'm trying to do a little research before I commit. Is there anything I should look for when I go take a look at the car? I know 129k miles is quite a few. Do you think 4900$ is a reasonable price assuming the car is in good condition? I appreciate your responses. Thanks, Gus.

If your initial visual inspection looks like it is good shape I would do three things:

1. Take it to a local service station and have them put it on a lift and inspect the suspension and under carriage for leaks, bangs and bruises.

2. Ask owner to provide service records on vehicle.

3. Check NADA - Used car prices; link below:

If you just want to spend the money on a carfax go ahead; however, be forwarned a "clean" report does not indicate that the vehicle does not have problems.

Contributions to Carfax are voluntary; therefore, accidents and mechanical problems are not always reported.

If you do not feel comfortable doing an inspection on your own find a reliable inspection service and have the vehicle inspected; but don't forget your common sense.
