Last question guys I swear.. lol. While idling, should the boost gauge be at -20 Hg? I cant get in and drive it for a couple days when I check it out so I'm relying on the dealer and you guys for advice. Turns out is IS a BOV No idea how long it has been on there though. Opinions?

should be at or just under 20hg at idle so thats normal. as for the bov, it wont really hurt anything but you could get a cel from it. i would spend the money on a aftermarket dv like forge 007 or similiar. forge also makes a splitter which is a dv and bov. vwgli has one i think and likes it. get the dv and sell the bov.

Its a lot more expensive than forge splitter valve but I've been eyeing this one.
http://www.turbosmartusa.com/product/dual-port

It's much larger than the forge splitter and I think it can support much more horsepower.
These are rated for up to 600 HP(medium turbo). They are made for evos and subarus.
They do come with different springs but you can change the opening speed with just a turn of the anodized top. The slower the spring and setting, the more boost is forced back into the intake before it's vented to atmosphere.
It's pretty cool. Also it comes with a block off piece that screws on so you can turn it into a full DV or full BOV It flows really well.
It's quite a large valve.

I dont plan on doing any major upgrades or trying to boost over 15psi anytime soon.. So it seems like that is a bit much for my purposes. I will keep it stock unless something breaks and I have the $$ to replace it with something better. Im sure eventually I will do some small upgrades.

You should put a stock DV on then.

The idea is that this car meters the air that comes in. It doesn't expect to just be vented out of the intake entirely once the throttle body closes. So when the intake opens up again the car expects much more air to to go into the motor. So you waste fuel by throwing much more than is needed for the amount of air that goes in.
The car realizes it threw too much fuel in by a sensor in the exhaust, the pre cat 02 sensor. The car takes this information and dials back the fuel it puts in trying to negate this over use of fuel.
After doing this for a while the car will start to throw in not enough fuel under boost. Which will lead to running rich. Which is dangerous, this is what causes detonation in motors. Your car will notice this too, realizing its knocking and dial back your ignition. Basically your car will always be trying to correct this mind fuck. It wasn't built to operate this way.
You'll be running the wrong amount of fuel at the wrong time and you can end up losing boost as the motor tries to save itself.

Better off with stock DV

dont get a stock one if it is running higher boost than stock. you would want a aftermarket like a forge, apr, eurojet, baileys, ect.

Yep. Aluminium holds more pressure than plastic. Just logic there.

yeah you can run a 007 on stock boost. they come with different springs to match up with the boost pressure you are running.
