Default Fwd to 4wd (possible)

What would I have to do to upgrade my Fwd VW Golf GTi yr 2000 up to a 4wd?
What would I need to upgrade in the process?

(I'm not asking if it is better to get a new car, i am askin how do I do it?)

you would have to cut out the bottom of the trunk and weld in a 4 motion one...

If you are willing to do that it is possible!

Didn't someone out west do this to a MK4? They dropped the 4motion/quattro from an Audi TT into the golf? I thought they also did the TT engine into it too...

Also for some reason I thought someone on here bought it but i could be making something up.

Is the rear half of the car strong enough to handle the stress of the rear wheels acting in a different manner then designed to do so?

uh, yeah?

"designed to do so"? you know volkswagen makes all wheel drive cars from the factory? there are 4motion golfs and jettas in europe, not to mention the r32. its pretty much the same body as the fwd cars, just vastly different suspensions and drive trains

i thought the floor plan from a fwd is different to a awd and was apparent that it wont fit for that reason

I remember having a chuckle at the cost of this conversion. It'll give you a good idea what's involved.

it is different, thats where a large part of the cost comes from. you needs to cut out your rear floor and replace it with the 4motion rear.
