Default Hesitant and Surging Acceleration

I have a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition and last year I had the Blow By valve replaced and the ECM updated and then my car started accelerating inconsistently. It would surge, then be hesitant and now I'm getting terrible gas mileage. The dealership replaced the Catalytic Converted and the Master Flow Sensor but I am still having troubles. Any thoughts or remedies?

Diverter valve for Blow off valve. Big difference and changes things to look for.

If you have a BOV on it, thats your problem, take it off. If not, what RPM's do you get the surging, and what mods are done.

In a scence. I run a GFB Hybrid, which is prob what hes talking about. It vents a certain amount and recirculates a certain amount. Kinda the best of both world...

But you cant have a set BOV and a set DV at the same time.. Well, you could, but...no

If you don't have the cash for an expensive DV you can get one for under $30 Just go to VW and say you need one for you 2004 gti. They will give you the upgraded 710n DV valve. Install it in reverse for best results. Also check out the great divertervavle chalenge in our DYI sticky thread

I had this exact same problem; switched the DV to a 710N - fixed it a little....upgraded the DV to a Turbo XS and got chipped by GIAC at the same time - it happens very very little, but every once in a while it will pop up for a very small surge. Still dont know what the problem is though.

P.S. - i bought the car used from a VW dealership as certified and it came with a CEL....they chekced it and it came as a faulty Blow Off Valve, they said the replaced it....might have something to do with it....

I usually get the surging around 2000 RPM. I get it the most when I down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear. This car is as stock as stock comes. I haven't done anything to it whatsoever. It was a great car for the first 2 years, now it seems to be falling apart, even though I take really good care of it. What does the Blow Off Valve do?

It is designed to release air when you take your foot off the gas so as not to cause damage to the throttle boddy. IF it is failing it is releasing air while you are in boost . which is what is causing your surging problemby not keeping constant boost the power fluctuates.

Just one thought on this topic, doesn't this car hav a electronic throttle module? If so, this could be his problem.

VW updated the ECM last year and then all of the problems started. First questions is, what is an electronic throtle module? The second question is, would an update to the ECM cause any problems with the electronic throtle module? I keep hearing that my current problem could damage my turbo. Should I refrain from driving ASAP or can I continue for a few more days? I've driven the car like this since last august and I've brought it to the VW dealership 4 times with no luck in resolving the issue.
