Default I popped my modding cherry today

I was going to make a joke post and put a picture of my stubby antenna up, but I'm far too excited about my other mods.

Before I started, I had to make a quick stop at the hardware store to purchase matching mounting screws and rubber mounts.

Here's the first one. Nuespeed p-flo intake with K&N filters. It took me longer to clean/oil the used filter than it did to remove the oem air box and install the neuspeed frame.

So I took a quick test drive at this point and noticed a more aggressive acceleration. I also noticed the louder sound of air rushing in when I accelerated and a whoosh of air if I let off the gas. Hopefully this is what was expected, and I moved on to my next project.

I thought that this Euroswitch install would be a sinch. After 30 minutes of pushing, pulling, prying, and several internet searches for install guides, I finally found that those crafty Germans had an easier locking system. After casually pushing the button in and moving it half way to the right, I pulled my switch right out. I also removed the 173 box from the panel near the pedals, which the guide told me to do.

Here's my car with "parking lights" on. Is this how it's supposed to look? Also, what the heck are the two icons on the left of of the switch for?

My final mod for today was the most nerve wracking. Boost Gauge. I found a nice internet guide and decided to make my second trip to the hardware store to get it done right.

So I cut that hose after reading about how my engine won't work unless I install this right. I fumbled around trying to get the hose on to the t-valve for a real long time before both sides were secure.

As you can see in this picture, the color scheme is a little off. The backing is white and the light is also white. But, it was a steal.

My readings were 22 vac at idle and a boost of 10 and 12 in fifth.

Next week I'm going to take out the stupid t-valve again and put clamps on the hose. I'm waiting for my Forge 007 DV to come in and some Neuspeed sport springs (which I probably will get some help on).

After that I need to get a bumper cover, my car looks like shit.

Nice... looks like you had a full day. The two icons on the side are for front fog lights (pull once on the switch) and rear fogs (pull twice on the switch) They won't work unless you have them tho (obviously)... And you don't have to use them for that either, you can hardwire any little ingenious idea you want to up to them...

Congrats, those days of accomplishing a bunch of tasks you want to get done, and installing shiny new parts are so great!

And just out of curiosity... why did you buy a euroswitch if you still have stock headlights?

I want to turn off DRLs but I'm going to get some new headlights in the future. I really need to get a bumper cover before I do anything else.

Pull your stock switch out and look at the tiny letters. Look for TFL. Bend that pin flat or put electrical tape over it. I bent mine and have never had a problem with it. The tape usually pushed off and wouldn't work.

The wiring harness seems to vary. My 02 golf had a white one and the electrical tape worked just fine. My 05 GTI has a black one with more "bite" that totally chews up the electrical tape. I ended up just bending the pin.

Hey Kieth, does the neuspeed intake snap onto the stock airpump hose? I've got a knockoff one(with an ABD filter... lol) and I cant figure out how to hook up that hose.

Btw, slick car, the boost guage looks great

Thanks. I was supposed to pick up some Eurobumpers this weekend but the guy never showed. I had the local body shop ready for me, I was going to get it done just in time for waterfest. Now I gotta settle for the 'scarface' look with my gaffed up bumper.

Anyways, the short is, no the filter doesn't snap on to the intake hose.

The long is, the hose connects to the MAF, the MAF connects to the Neuspeed bracked and the filter connects to the Neuspeed bracket. I got the instructions from the website, have you looked on the ABD website? If all else fails, post some pictures here, someone aught to be able to help you.

You like that boost gauge? I just put a new light in it so it glows with a red circle now and matches the interior. I want to get a different one, so I'll keep you in mind when I go to sell it. Easy install.

Well the thing about the ABD filter is that it doesnt come with an air pump filter So I tried hooking the air pump hose to an old p-flo style intake that I had laying around but it doesnt quite work with those rigid plastic hoses(works fine with the rubber kind though). I've got something jury rigged working for now, so no worries.

Anyways, Scarface look? Whats up you dont have any bumpers on at all right now?
