Default Mk4 with keyless entry?

Would all mk4 gti's have keyless entry with the remote? Specifically a 2002. Because the seller of the car I'm buying says his doesn't have one. He just unlocks the doors with the key.

its 200 dollars total to buy a fob, have it cut, and program it to your car from the dealer. he probably lost it.

I was at my local dealer the other day and saw $65 to have it programmed if you already have the key and fob, sometimes they stop working when runs out of battery and dont work again when replacing with a new battery

I'll have to ask him for sure if he has it to make sure. If he doesn't, is it crucial that I get one right away? Or are the buttons right on the key?

if he has the regular key, you should still be able to turn on the car, lock and unlock all doors. youll just have to do it manually.

Ahh I see. I looked up a picture of the key fob and I see that the buttons are on the key and it flips out. I do remember the key flipping out of the side. So maybe I just didn't notice? I'm going to ask the guy tomorrow.

maybe you were looking at the wrong side lol. maybe hes saying he doesnt have one because it doesnt work? as long as you have one key that can turn the car on and lock/unlock the doors than you should be ok. all i got was one key fob with my car. the buttons stopped working one day even with a new battery they still dont work. anyways, the dealer should be able to make you a working one for a somewhat pricey bill.

Well I asked the guy if he had the original key fob and if it worked and he said he has it but it got wet so doesn't work. So I'll have to get a new one. Does an mk3 have one? Because my golf has an alarm but the only way I can turn it on is with the key in the door.

Usually the alarm will still work with the key on the door
