Exclamation need help... 1.6 golf gl keeps cutting out

Theres no pattern to it, sometimes it runs all day with out a problem, other times itl cut out 3 or 4 times on a short jorney!!
The oil light comes on then the car looses power, after about 5 mins it starts again fine but could happen again a mile down the road... any ideas??
