Default Noise on start up

My car makes a whining noise very badly when i first start up the car. It seems to happen more after I haven't driven the car for a few hours. Like early in the morning. It is a 2004 jetta 1.8t. My car will also jerk once in a blue moon and then it's fine. I have connected the ODB reader and have recieved no codes. Now it seems to happen when it's cold outside. Right now it's not a major issue but it obvioulsy could lead to something so if anyone knows when this is or possible be please let me now!

Next time you post, use the search function first. This has been covered a thousand times.

It is your secondary air pump/injection system for emissions control. It's useless and does nothing important...just let it run till your idle dies down and it turns off.

I did a search and there wasn't definite answer. That's why I asked the question, maybe someone had determined 100 percent for sure what it was. Anyways can the secondary pump breaking down lead to other problems?

Ok thanks for your help. I think I'm gonna get my car checked out anyways because the noise annoys the hell out of me. Also I want to make sure its just that secondary pump and nothing else.

I've actually been told it could be the starter also, but I have a hard time believing that. My car never has an issue starting up. After reading many threads on this issue i have come to conclusion it must be my sec pump, but it can be anything.

LOL your car sounds like a beast! My car doesnt sound like that though. It's more of an annoying belt sound. At least yours has some balls to it on startup.

I'm not sure but I can't see that causing the car to jerk once in awhile. But I could be totally wrong. I'm definitely going to take it to a mechanic just to decipher exactly what's the problem.
