Figured since Im "new" Id start the cliche build thread

Sold my 12V VR on a Labor Day and picked up a lovely 20th the following Tuesday.

Been a road up ups and downs so far... but here's a list of the work so far.

- BBS Shot Peened RCs
- RodgersRetrofits Custom Xenon Headlights (FXR bixenons with Dual Turn Signals)
- 10/17.5mm spacers
- Koni Adjustable Coilovers

- Eurojet 3in Turboback (ebay DP)

- OEM .:R Front Brakes
- OEM .:R Steering wheel
- Eurodyne Maestro Stage 2

Now for the Wordy part of the Saga!

So, I paid a buddy to install some new Rings and IE rods... All went well until 1,500 miles later I spun a bearing! Fucking idiot didnt make sure the Rod Caps were on the right way and threw all the clearances out the window. Left me stranded an hour away from home...

He ended up not taking any responsibility and I was forced to fix it on my own... and at the end of the day he still says it my fault even though it was his job

So got the head off. looks like I have some bent valves and Cyl 2 made contact with the Head. Yippee!:banghead:

Now On top of it all, the same guy, Misjudged the Timing on the Donor, and All Valves were bent on Startup. I had to install my original head and got her running. Forget that "VW Tech" haha!

Yeah, Upside Is I learned EVERYTHING about the 1.8t and now am confident to tackle any problem in my future! :P

I had a similar situation, although my problem was with the slave cylinder / timing / clutch. I paid $2k to a reputable BMW/Audi/VW mechanic and I ended up doing the work again myself cuz he fucked up.

I'll never take my rides to any mechanic ever again..... but that bad experience eventually led me to gain invaluable mechanical knowledge. Now I can fix anything on my 24v.

and yea I second beating your "buddy's" face.... at the very least take a bottle to his forehead ffs that's terrible

Haha thanks for backing me up guys! and its a totally unbiased description of what happened. Very cut and dry. Dude left me hanging and says its all good cause he was, "nice enough to let me use his garage for a month" while I basically had a crash course in Motorswapin'. He also literally TEXTED me EVERYDAY saying I had x# of days till the deadline to either and again Im quoting here, " drive it out, or push it out"!!!

All he did was help push the fucking car out of his garage. And now he "feels bad" and doenst want to loose a friend over it so he offered to Rebuild my OLD bottom end to bury the Hatchet!?!@? :facepalm: No thanks, ill do it myself! At least I know Ill take 100% responsibility if something goes wrong haha.


But as a buddy Dylan was flat towin' me home (in his lifted turbo wrangler :P), Dylan calls on his phone and offers to let me use his garage to put the old head on and get it running again! Week later, she was alive!!!! Now he is a REAL Dubber!


EDIT: and the k04 is gonna put the cherry on the top! Just Driving it was Great on the Stock tune, let alone Eurodyne! Then add some more boost/TT injectors.. and ill be able to be patient enough to save for a BT

Yeah, the more I think about it the more excited I get about that lil guy in the Mail! ive ridden in a k04 20v which is set up just like my car and it pulled like crazy!

Im thinking about adding some w/m for the summertime in case i need some more and thinking about changing up the RCS... I love em but I want a wider set up for Trackdays...ha
