Default Stereo question (cutting out)

Apparently, my search ability isn't real good...my '03 Jetta stereo (Monsoon system) has developed a habit of cutting out.

It'll play fine for a bit then one of the speakers (at random, not always the same one) will thump/crackle and all sound will cease for a couple seconds. Then it will resume playing (unless there's another thump/crackle, in that time in which case it waits again)

I'm about to attempt to fix it by having an aftermarket deck installed-my question is..is there a separate amp, and if so could it be the culprit?

I'd hate to put out the cash just to listen to the same thing happening on the way home from the stereo shop.

Thanks in advance,
Cam.

There is a amp in the trunk on right side under the deck. climb in trunk and look up. The amp could be the issue but it won't go from speaker to speaker. It will affect all at the same time unless it is a specific channel failing. I have read about all kinds of radio issues on here and everyone @ one point has said to disconnect battery for 30-60 min and see if that clears it up. I haven't had a issue yet so I don't know what it could be.

Possible bad ground...or a blown speaker if it's the same one doing it over and over again. There is a seperate amplifier in the trunk mounted to the rear deck (you can't miss it). Putting in an aftermarket deck will most likely not work...and will make the rear speakers sound bad because they're wired for 2 ohm and the CD player outputs at 4 ohms. Playing that intensely will probably eventually ruin the amp built into the deck or the amplifier in the trunk.
