Had a guy text me about a trade offer on my mildly modded twin turbo 300ZX with proof of high $$$ maintenance. It's an 01 Jetta Wolfsburg 5sp that needs a windshield (and the front bumper touched up and tightened up at least).
Anyways, I'll copy/paste his text/email info on the car and put pics below, his info in italics. Could you tell me what you guys think the car is worth in VW Land?
2001 Wolfsburg edition 1.8 turbo Jetta, body has 212*** miles on it, all
suspension has been replaced and adjusted properly, motor itself has been
rebuilt and polished by richman auto, the motor and turbo have 14,000 miles on them, I am the second owner ever of the car, only body feature that is bad is I was driving down the road a few weeks ago and a tree branch fell from a tree and cracked my windshield, other than that, the car is great.
Stage 2 dynotune, 340cc injectors, dynos 279hp at the wheels at 21psi.
It has stock injectors, but they have been programmed to 310cc's my mistake on that, timing belt and water pump have been replaced 30,000 some odd miles ago, full three inch exhaust from turbo to muffler, then two ad a half inch tip for 8 inches turned down, had FK Racin coilovers and ball joints and sway arms, Maximum performance, Stewart Warner waste gate and boost controller Gauge, Greddy turbo Intercooler piping that I installed myself onto stock side mount intercooler, but will be replacing the side mount with a front mount this week, brand new spark plugs and a brand new coil by Accupower. I have the newest edition Motegi Racing wheels on the car rite now, I also have the stock GLI wheels at my home. Seals in turbo and piping have been freshly replaced my dad and myself, he's a certified mechanic and Wyatt Johnson, Mazda/Hyundai/Subaru. I service the motor weekly, and change the oil monthly sometimes earlier than that to keep the new motor as clean as possible.
Anyways, some of his stuff is hard to make out but with you guys being familiar with the parts and brands, you might be able to make sense of it. Seeing the Greddy turbo, I Googled and it doesn't look like Greddy makes turbos for VW cars so I asked and he said it's a stock turbo with an aftermarket turbo housing, and Greddy turbo piping. Why someone would go through the extent of replacing housings with aftermarket but using the same compressor/turbine wheels is beyond me, and pushing a stock turbo to 21psi sounds retarded. I've NEVER seen a stock turbo be efficient at 21psi and last very long, let alone 14k miles. But then again, I am unfamiliar with the aftermarket offerings for VW cars. Plus, 21psi on a stock sidemount sounds like a recipe for disaster. In twin turbo Z land, if I ran 21psi on my stock turbos on my stock sidemounts, I would have blown something up by now, how is it VWs can seemingly get away with it?
Anyways, any help would be appreciated on rough value.

19-21psi on stock turbo and inter cooler is VERY common on these cars.
Rear wheel drive twin turbo old school jap for a mk4 jetta. I think you're nuts on that. I would never do that trade!
Really the body on these cars is very important. Even though he is pushing out a very impressive amount of power I doubt he would fetch more than 3-4 grand for it just because of the horrid body.
I have to wonder about the well being of the motor, he is running a stock turbo inlet pipe with the factory air box, stock intercooler. And pushing 21 psi and a TON of wheel horsepower.
For 1, I would be worried about internals, this much power is NOT rod friendly. And second, was this dyno done on the car with these parts? If so that turbo must be a beast, because the inlet and air box to the turbo are quite restrictive. And that inter cooler would be under terrible heat soak.

i wouldnt buy it because of this alone.....why would u put old timing belt back on motor after fresh rebuild??? i call bs on his story too many red flags in his message
That car might be worth $4000. Maybe. Also there is so much false information in the description. The seller has no clue what he is talking about. Im pissed off just reading it and looking at the car. There is no visible engine work besides a blue hose and a red throttle body hose. The car looks beat.
I can tell the car looks dirty and unkempt, but I know it has been raining like hell the past few weeks here in TN so I give him the benefit of the doubt there, but the interior I think could have been a little better cleaned before the pics.
Anyways, $4000ish is tops for the car? I wasn't set on it, but wouldn't mind getting something newer that's easier to work on and upgrade. He texted to ask what I was asking for the car and if I was interested in trades. I said $7500 is what I'm asking and will do trades on cars I like for the same value or cash added; it struck me kinda funny when he replied saying that's what his car was worth. I've seen most early 00 Jettas, whether stock or lightly modded have an asking price of around $4000-4500ish but I had no clue about this one with the parts he mentioned. Thank God for internet forums and guys that can help me out with stuff I'm unfamiliar with.
That car will be a headache . I would pass. You can find one with half the mileage for around $5000. Also one that is haggard. The big thing that gripes me is the false information in the description.
I'm going to list some stuff that stands out as wrong or questionable.
Different coilpacks
Haggard coilpack wires
Looks like green coolant in the bottle
Boogered gold wrap around some line
Stock turbo blanket(technically shouldn't fit on an aftermarket housing)
Stock air box
Not an oem maf sensor
Service the motor weekly? Lol
Change the oil monthly? Lol
I'm done with this.
Also. Parts do not add to the value of the car. Unless they are parts that hold value like wheels, interior parts, body parts. Anything that is prone to wear and tear...no.
The part with pushing 21lbs is maybe the only thing that is believable. I'm running 24lbs on my stock turbo. Been running it like that for over 90,000 miles.
Alright, thanks for the info guys. I'll tell him I'm going to pass. With the way you guys describe it, it doesn't seem to be worth it even if he added cash.
And I wish my stock turbos could hold 24 psi reliably...there'd be no reason to ever upgrade lol
I don't think this is a Wolfsburg Edition to tell you the truth. I have one an 03 one and it has distinct seats and a badge near the front quarter panel.
So with him lying right off the bat it makes him look like a shady seller.
Just filthy too, didn't bother cleaning it for pictures.
one side is fat fives, one side is tuner alloys?
Bumper has been ripped off serveral times, clips on the driver side holding it on are busted off. All the grilles and the valance was rattle canned. e bay lights. Stock injectors.
There's just no way this car is pushing horsepower.
And honestly I would think this car would have trouble fetching it's low end price. It's just a mess.

I also don't trust the work done on that car.
This^^ the seats are not, the steering wheel is not, and the badging is not there to make it one.
/thread, this guy is BSing you out of money on a car that has terrible wheels, terrible fittment on the bumpers, and terrible interior.
Told him I was going to pass, you guys ripping his car a new one gave me some good info. Besides, got a trade offer on my project 240Z for some sweet great condition Volk 18 GT-Ps for the 300ZX so I'm going to just roll in style on some pricey wheels instead of get a VW
