5-Speed to 6-Speed swap (2001 1.8t)

Specs: 2001 Beetle Sport 1.8t 5-speed

It happened after a hard pull (0-100). First gear felt a little funny after the pull so I shifted back and forth between 1st and 2nd then all of a sudden it would not shift into 1st gear.

Now my question is this. If the tranny costs $300+ to fix I would like to swap it out for a 6-speed.

Is this possible to do and still retain factory like reliability? Well actually forget factory like reliability

will it work period? If it does what will I need to change.

Thanks for any help I get! Totally new at VWs

P.S. I already have the transmission pulled.

You can replace the 5-speed with a 6-speed from another Beetle. You will need to replace the driveshafts as well. Those be more difficult to find than the transmission.
