I have a 02 beetle with the 1.8L turbo engine. The timing belt went and bent most of the valves. Is their any place anyone recommends on where to get rebuilt cylinder heads. One place aluminum heads rebuilder wants $595 for a head with new valves and springs. Trying to get a reputable place appereciate any help.
Thanks

Well, I can say this. I have never been screwed over by an engine machine shop and believe me I have dealt with many. I have had plenty of shops make mistakes but they have always stood by there work.
Throwing some quick figures out there. If you were to go buy the parts and were able to do the machining work yourself, your looking at about $18 ish per valve and seat (which some still require to be machined), springs are about $10 ea. So that right there is $560. (These are real general figures). The last set of heads I had done were on a Toyota V6 (12 valves total) I had to buy three new valves and seats, the rest of the valves were either re-ground or re-lapped in. That cost me about $600.
The best way I learned how to find a good machine shop in my area was to call a few local auto repair shops and asked them who they recommend. They love to pass on that kind of info. They would know the best as repair shops like to stick with who is reputable and gives the best price. Just remember if they install a remachined head or other engine part that fails, they are the one out the labor to fix the machine shop screw up.
