Default 1992 Carrado SLc

Well i was cruising home from hockey 2day and what do i see, a beautifull specimen of a carrado sitting in a parking lot near my house. So of course i stop to take a look and it was for sale. 5500 for the car 121,000 miles on it neuspeed p flow giac chip and high flow cat. The only thing wrong with the car is the 2nd gear syncro is shot. The guy told me if he gets the tranny rebuilt it will go up to 6500 bucks. Is that a fair deal?? One other thing he replaced the coolant hoses wiht samco hoses because he said the old rubber ones crack.
I hope this is a good deal because im itching for that vr powa!

I sayh it all depends on condition. A mint SLC Raddo with mods could run and low miles could run up into the low teens reguardless what kelly blue book says. I say if the body is mint and the engine decent go for it.

Hmmm, what color, and what interior? I'm kinda itching tio get back into a rado myself. As for your rims fitting, they will, but you will need new tires at the proper size, 205/40/17, otherwise it'll sit like 1 1/2" higher than it should, even lowered.

Personally, I think it's a little overpriced. I would do closer to 4,000. The fact that the 2nd gear syncros leads me to believe that he drove that car hard and other things may be close to wear. I would definitely ask about the timing belt, heater core, and sunroof (if it has one). And then only buy it if it's been inspected.

But if you do buy this Corrado or another one, do yourself a favor and buy a Bentley for it...you'll need it.

Happy Hunting.

Actaully, it's the timing CHAINS on a VR6, and they shoudl be replaced by now, if not, you're looking at $200 in parts and around 6 hours ;labor to get them done at a shop. WIth the mileage, and condtion, the price is way too much. The only way I'd give 5500-6000 is with the trans rebuilt, and the timing chains done.

5500 seems fair if everything else is mint. Second gear syncro is a common problem on the VR6. Also the question is does it shift in to 2nd? At 121k the chains may not have been replaced, I didn't do mine until 140k and they were still quiet. That depends on how the car was driven. I got mine from a old man who drove it hard, but didn't beat on it. Samco hoses are the shit too, right there is $400 that you don't have to spend. Your wheels from you Jetta will not fit either, 4cyls have 4 lug, VR6 has a 5 lug. But 17s will fit, 16s are optimal IMO though.
When I bought my 93 about 3 years ago, it had about 127k and I payed $6000. The car was mint, just caught the 2nd gear syncro during spirited driving. I now have 168k and still haven't fixed the syncro.

Oh and BTW it's spelled COrrado not CArrado

And 6 hours labor seems low for chains, it's 6 hours to R&I the trans PLUS from there you still have to do the chains. I think the labor time is closer to 10-12 hours for a 5 speed and 12-14 for an automatic
